Gift Box

Its wedding season here and that makes me happy as more wedding means more invites that I get to reuse.Did some one say Stingy ?( A rupee saved is rupee earned !)besides its a pain to throw away the beautiful paper .Enough of chattering .As you must have guessed the box is decorated with paper from invitation card.

What else is reused ?
A sweets box and invitation card
The rosettes are made out of  gold and silver chocolate bar packing. The swirls are made of  sequence and pearls used for embroidery .I thought better use them than paper strips but I guess paper swirls would have looked better !

Message with example !

Its a gift tag ..what has it to do with the title ? take another look ...

take a closer look at the flowers (pom-poms)

Now you got the green message Lets move to example ..
Before that take a closer look at the flowers (pom-poms)

Do they look like tissue paper pom poms ? Ok Ok..enough of beating around the bush .The flowers leaves and swirls too are made out of polythene bags ! The tag involves 100% recycling.Lets see what items were recycled.

Price tag , polythene bags and  pom-poms before coloring

I covered this price tag with white tissue to get some texture.Made pom-poms by technique used for making tissue paper pom-poms and then colored thier edges with red sketch-pen.I made leaves using white polythene earlier and colored it green .They did not look much nice, luckily I found green bag and made leaves out of it.Making swirls was tricky ,but managed some how. Finally added some pearls.I had this idea of plastic pom-poms and wanted a message to go with the theme of recycling. So came out with

"Reuse and Reduce plastic make 2013 fantastic ! "

Mini set

Made  small(3.5 by 2.5 inches) set of card and a bag.I have used red chart paper for box and card .Decorated them with quilling ( malaysian flower technique ).

What's reused ?

Used this box for making the bag.I got this idea from Hussena's recycled cereal box .The wooden sticks used in center are from broom .I slit them in center so they can be easily pasted. Then coated them with clear varnish to it  give some luster.I had cane furniture in mind while using this sticks. The white strips used for quilling are from an invitation card.Used jute twine to make bag handles.

Does it look very simple and needs some more embellishments ? what do you think ?

Quilled Gift Tag

Once again Christmas themed creations !Made a gift tag with quilled bells, leaves and berries .For the base I have used white card stock , layered it with plastic sheet which had white design on it.(recycled it from a flower bouquet !).
I quilled the bells and then coated them with glue and sprinkled golden  dust over it to give glittery look.I have used also white net from fruit packaging .Earlier made the tag like this:

It looked  incomplete so changed the positioning and folded the net. Looks much better now .What do you think ?

Card with a Door !

 Knock knock !!

See who is at the door ?

Here to say " Thank You !".

I made a small card bit bigger then note card and smaller than standard card .It is similar to gate fold card.Made the door panels using acetate sheet.Used  paper with wooden print(from an old magazine) for doors.Distressed with white color in center to give the effect of glass etching .Use a bead for door knob.
I drew the Japanese doll taking inspiration from an image ,colored with pencil colors cut it and gave slight dimension. The bamboo trees in background are also hand draw and colored.Sentiment is hand written .That's all about this card .Do tell if you like it .

Warli Note book

Oh no not warli again !!I know you must be thinking this ..with so much of warli creations  going on this month .I saw Saumya's Notebooks and remembered I had made one too.Not at all perfect like her !This  is out an out recycling project. As I have used thin cardboard sheet from shirt packing for cover, the pages are leftover from old diaries, red handmade paper is from wedding invitation card and cream colored paper too from same card.I stacked all the pages together and cut them in same size. As they are less made two holes and tied all pages together with golden thread.

The time consuming part was cutting and pasting tiny warli figures(Paper piecing in short !)As they are very small they kept falling here and there and had to cut them again and again. This reminded me of school days when in every summer I used to keep all the unused pages from notebooks to make a rough book for next year !(See I was stingy since childhood !!).I wish you are not thinking I have gone crazy over warli  :)  :D ;) !

I was happy and rather surprised to see Madalina's comment about  Liebster Award .I never thought it would come to me ! Thanks a lot Mandalina for all the good words and passing this Award to me.Its an honor .

About the Award
Liebster is a German word meaning "Beloved," "Favorite," or "Dearest." This award is a peer to peer award in which fellow bloggers present the award to their favorite bloggers with less than 200 followers. The origins of this award is unclear, but is believed to have originated by a German blogger. This award was designed to be a blog award in the pay it forward fashion to share your dearest and most beloved blogs that have less than 200 followers.

To accept the award, you must:

1) Link back to the person who gave it and thank them for thinking of you.

2) Post the award to your blog.

3) Give the award to 5 bloggers (with less than 200 followers) that you appreciate and value.

4) Leave a comment on the blogs of the five people you have chosen to let them know.

Now comes the difficult task to pass the award .What makes it difficult is I can pass it to only 5 bloggers !! If possible I would pass it to all blogs that I follow.I love all the works of fellow Bloggers and they constantly inspire me.The condition of less than 200 followers has helped to shortlist and also the fact that most of them have already received this award.I would like to pass this Award to :

Hussena ( Quill and Punch Works) - I simply adore her work be it paper quilling ,punch craft or stamping. She creates awesome cards, tags and even bags. Her creations are beautifully embellished and have very nice color combinations. Not only she creates beautiful crafts but also encourages fellow bloggers with her comments and tutorials. If you have already visited her blog you would agree with me and if not do visit .

Chris ( A Journey into Quilling and Paper Crafting) - I am a great fan of her tutorials. She keeps on inventing new techniques in Paper Quilling and is generous enough to share them with fellow crafters. Her techniques and tips are very useful to improve paper quilling. If you haven't seen her fabulous creations do check .She has done some mind blowing landscapes, portraits and her latest work is Christmas decor using improved(or shall say simplified ?) beehive technique.

Eesha Kolli (Love for art in many forms)- I had seen her few cards in ICR gallery and I was so impressed  by her creativity that I started following her blog.Like her blog says she loves art in many forms be it drawing, sketching, or card making. She is an amazing artist and her sketches are just Fabulous. Its always a pleasure to visit her blog to see her creations.I am sure you will like them too.

Sindhu ( Trapped in Craft) -I loved her back to school card, it was so Unique and creative. Though I started to follow her blog earlier, got to know little about her recently :) !! I love sindhu's cards they  have very beautiful color combinations. She has made some beautiful cards be it CAS style or shabby chic style.I Enjoy visiting her blog.I am sure you will too !

Smita (Quilling,a super papercraft)- Smita's Paper Quilling works are wonderful, 2D and 3D both ! I liked her quilled cards and frames very much She had strarted experimenting with stamping too.Her recent Christmas cards are very beautiful ,bright and festive. She is always there to encourage fellow crafters like me with her sweet comments.Take a look a her creations and you will agree with me too.

Though I have mentioned only few .I would like to thank all the blogger pals for sharing tips and techniques, for their encouragement and sweet comments too !

One more Rangoli !

Thanks a lots for the lovely comments on the previous rangoli post.Encouraged by the comments I am sharing one more rangoli I drew for Diwali.

Picture is inspired from a greeting card. The card had two birds and lots of flowers .Due to time constrain I decided to draw only a part of it . This time I didn't do the background to avoid mess(and save time too :) ). I have used normal rangoli for coloring As the rangoli powder is very coarse had to sieve it before using. This rangoli is  nearly 3 by 3 feet.Though it takes time to draw big rangoli but it becomes easier to do the shadings. For some shades I have mixed turmeric power , kumkum in white rangoli.Hope you like it.

Happy Diwali !

Wish you all a very Happy Diwali !

I am sharing the picture of rangoli I made for Diwali .Looks small in picture but is 3.5 feet by 2.5 feet actually. This rangoli is  inspired by desktop wallpaper could not replicate it exactly. The background is a mess and bird also requires lots of improvement .Still wanted to share something along with Diwali Wishes.Hope you all are enjoying and having good time with family and friends.

Madhubani Envelops

It has been almost a week that I posted anything.Busy with other stuff so didn't craft anything.I got some nice rose plants planted them ,cleared grass in garden, sprayed fertilizer  and spent all free time gardening.
Continuing with the traditional and Diwali theme I am sharing madhubani envelops today.

Last week it was warli and now madhubani !! I love painting them both.Warli painting has simplicity and madhubani is colorful . These cash envelops were made using old invitation cards.I had made them long before but didn't gift them to any one :) !

For this card I have used red chart paper and paper from an invitation card.

Third card is a tent card.

Colorful Card

With  festivals lined up I wanted to make a colorful card.Instead of using paper scraps I colored it using watercolor pencils.Initially I drew small vines with the white crayon so that when I color, the vines will stand out on colored background(something like batik on paper). But it did not come out like that so I drew the vines with black marker.

Inspired by Sunehra's tips  I took printout of sentiment rather than writing it . Decorated the scallop with some folded roses and quilled leaves and a small butterfly.

Added a small heart pendant  and some pearls for embellishment.Sentiment is computer generated. Most of the paper used for this card is from old invitations.

Some card Envelopes

I  had no intention of crafting today..had reserved the free time to clean and organize my cupboard. While organizing I found some brown paper, some news paper scraps and a packet of confetti.I decided to make envelopes for my cards  using  all of them.

This first one has butterfly made out of news paper and some jute twine.I had seen such butterfly on pinterest and liked them and wanted envelop to match the card so...made it ..

The second one was for banner card  so made a banner out of letters cut from news paper .

Third one was for punched polka dots card ..

Do you find something  interesting in it.?.Oh no ! not the flower..Its not worth even a look..(just some left over loose scrolls)Take a closer look ...

Now ..the small confetti  are visible..!! This  was inspired from a  post by Mandy  on  Lessology for Gift wrap Challenge (Check the link for details). She had used Tissue papers  I used old printer sheets..Took two sheets ..emptied the packet of these  confetti  (left over  from this card..)on one of  them.placed other sheet above it than .pasted the ends of both sheets and made envelop...They move when envelop is shaken .! I had no intention of adding that blue strip n flower..but some how the sheet tore of ..and  thus..for damage control..came in the strip !!

This was my try to make some ( TINY !!) space in my cupboard..by using up stuff !!

I am sure you all must have used brown paper in some ways..Do share..suggestions are always welcome !

 Tutorial for Corn husk Flowers.

Now very first Tutorial ! Corn husk flowers can be made in many shapes and sizes ,colors..I am sharing the steps I  followed while making these.

1.These are dried corn husks i used .
2.Cut petals .

3.The petals look flat.So give them some dimension by a embossing tool or with fingers. This has to be done gently or the husk will tear off. The petals after embossing look like this...

4.Color the edges you can color full petals also.cut out a small base and fringed flower for center of flower.

5.paste the petals on the base.I used 5 petals for larger flower and 3 for smaller one.

6.To shape the flower place on a sponge and press it at center.

7.Finally paste a fringed flower at center.You can use anything a button,bead.

Done with flowers  ! Similarly I made leaves for the card.Do tell me if you like it !
