Monochromatic Card

Monochromatic card

This card is based on a color challenge and a sketch .

card inside
Made an aperture and glued  acetate over it.

stamping using fruit packing
For the pp I have used normal fruit packing for stamping with water colors.

The flowers are handmade.I have shared a tutorial for paper rose here. The white leaves are hand cut and I have used some fabric scraps to add  texture.White bottom part (not the base card stock)was embossed(not clearly visible in photo).finished off with some plastic cylindrical beads  !

Whats reused  ?
Navy blue paper is recycled from a wedding invite and so is the acetate piece. The plastic beads are from an old broken jewelery. fabric is from an old dress, paper for small flowers is from a leaflet and leaves were cut from an old invite.I have re-purposed the fruit packing for stamping .

Quilled Earrings

Quilled earrings

This is my first attempt at quilling jewelry .I always admired quilled jewelry by talented quillers in our blog-land but never tried,Thanks to Shylaashree's challenge I made this earrings !

quilled key earrings
This earrings are approximately 1 inch long.I have used black chart paper strips for quilling and later colored it with copper and gold dust to give antique look.I had used this technique earlier for this envelope. Quilling key is not totally my idea I had come across beautifully quilled antique keys here and since then wanted to try it.Mine are not even 1 % like the original one though !! I kept the design very simple the reason ...

failed attempt !!
I had started with this initially but it did not turn out good so switched to simple design but with proper execution ! I believe rather than having complicated design but improper execution its better to keep it simple and neat !! What do you think ?

Quilled doll

I had started to quill this doll even before I started blogging, but left it incomplete. Thanks to Shylaashree's quilling challenge finished it now .

Before you mention it,I agree the the colors look very uneven that is because I haven't used normal colored quilling strips.I have used  paper from old calender  to cut the strips, I quilled keeping the printed side inwards, so only white side shows.Quilled all the parts separately and then colored them. The paper being glossy did not hold the colors properly so used white glue, water color mixture that is why the uneven  n coarse colors.

I haven't used teardrop shape for palms but quilled the thumb, fingers and palm separately and then glued them together and shaped them a bit(ya..ya I know it is resembling a skeleton's hand !!)

I tried to give some pattern to her dress  with strips.Used an old price tag to cut strips for her hairs as is study and so retains shape plus it shines !! Finished of by adding a small rose in one hand  and a hat !
I know i have to work a lot on 3D quilling to get it correct . Suggestions are welcome and so are comments :D !

Used white cream colored paper as base  and colored 1/3 part of the bag using wax-resist technique with water colors.Drew some random squares with white wax-crayon and then colored with pink, orange n yellow colors.
bag colored using wax-resit technique & water colors
I have used straws covered with tissue to make the base for bow.(Similar to this card). The bow is made of up-cycled  packaging net .The charm is made out of some plastic beads n some jewelery pieces.

Pink again !

quilled pink/purple card
I know its serious lack of creativity on my part using same pattern n colors  again !( Can you believe I had decided I won't make a pink/purple card for few days and try another colors ). This card looks very similar to my previous card using straw.Only difference is bg and quilling.

royal flowers with multi strip husking

I have used  packaging  as base for making the bg. Achived the patterned look with water colors and plastic. You can get to know more interesting techniques to create bg with water colors here. This is how the bg looks,I used packing that comes with shirts as it is thicker than card-stock.
background created with water colors using plastic

I have stitched butter paper layer on bg.The scalloped oval is hand cut.I have used same card stock for cutting white strips. pink ones are cut from pink chart paper.Used royal flower technique along with  multi - strip husking for quilling flowers.I have used cylindrical plastic beads to make inner oval.
card lying flat

This is thrifty card as the total cost is well below Rs.25
Card-stock :Rs.1 (Got whole sheet for Rs.10)
patterned bg base:up-cycled packaging/filler.
Butter paper - up-cycled from packing.
Quilling strips:Rs.1 (again got big sheets and hardly used 2 strip of 3mm length wise)
beads:Rs.2 (Got full packet of disco beads for Rs.5)
The total cost comes even below Rs.5 !!
Does this makes the card so cheap??
Though the raw materials do not cost much but the  efforts are very costly.Often more efforts n thinking is needed while using up-cycled items for card/project.What do you think ?
