One more Shabby Card

Card side view
You must be wondering ,why  I am making card with same stlye, same theme n even same colors ? well I am not the only one to blame..take a look at photo inspiration at Make My Monday .Its so lovely  and after seeing it ,

Photo Inpiration

I realized it can be combined with the wonderful sketch by Deepti for Catchy Challenges

Along with photo n sketch I also had some papers left from my previous shabby  card which could be used here. Back to my card ..

I have drawn inspiration from the mirror , the drapes and flowers.I have used acetate to resemble mirror. traced the sentiment over it with CD marker.

I have glued three layers of lace at the bottom. The lace was all white ,colored it cream and glued few pearls.
Add caption
The metal rim around the sentiment is from an old key-chain ,made a braid using satin ribbon and glued it around the rim to add width to the frame.I have colored it with white acrylic color to make it look shabby .Attached a metal charm to the braid. The flowers are handmade and leaves are hand cut.The card has layers with stitching on them and I have placed a muslin cloth between them. DO tell me how do you like it ..

Whats reused here ?
Acetate from an invite, metal rim from a key chain, charm from old bracelet, old invite for cream colored layer, muslin from an envelope.

Textured Pattern Paper - Tutorial

A very easy tutorial to create textured pattern paper. It has been on my to do list since long ..almost a year .For this we will need
  • paper
  • White glue /Fevicol
  • colors watercolor/acrylic colors
  • comb/fork or anything with teeth to create texture
  • a brush
  • Tooth-pick
 Lets start ..

1. Use thick card stock as base.don't use chart paper it will not turn out good.If you have old invites with one side clean i;e not printed. This technique is a wonderful way to up-cycle them.Shirt  Packaging/filler can also be used as base.

2. I have used water colors, it can be done using acrylic/fabric colors also.Mix white glue and few drop of color I have used three different colors yellow, pink n orange it can be done with one or many colors what ever combination you like.A table spoon of glue is enough for 6 X 6 paper. If the consistency seems so thick add 1-2drops of water,So that the mixture can be spread easily ,at the same it must not be runny or the texture will not come out properly.Spread the glue color mixture on paper with a brush ,take care to spread the mixture evenly.

you see some lumps here ,I have removed them later with a tooth-pick.

3.After mixture is spread evenly start making texture on it with comb.Make sure to clean the comb after every pattern you make, so the next pattern comes clean.

This is how it looks after making pattern.Don't worry if the mixture runs between the pattern let it set for few secs and remove it gently with tooth pick.If you want some glitter can be sprinkled on the pattern while the mixture is still wet.

4.let it dry for few hours.

Tada..you have your own textured pp ...
The colors look one shade darker as glue dries transparent.
If the base is very small say like a tag you can even doodle with tooth-pick instead of using comb. There many possibilities with this technique you can use shades of one color ,create ombre effect ,rainbow colors just two colors and spread it as you wish.Same is the case with pattern you can makes waves, circles, squares anything that comes to your mind.Lastly this is the card I  made last Aug using this technique.Original post can be viewed  here.

This is very simple technique if you know of any variations do suggest and in case of any query just comment I will try to help.

Blurred Vision Stamping

Hello card
A Simple hello card with Blurred Vision Stamping.I am yet to buy any stamping supplies so whenever any challenge is  based on stamping I try to find a way around to do it.Did same with Blurred Vision Stamping Technique which is this month's challenge at Technique Time Tuesday.Tried on different papers but the one with water paper looked nice.

closer look at stamping
Kept the card Simple with focus on center panel with stamping.I am really not good in combining colors so I participate in very few color challenges. This time tried the color palette at Color Q.

hand-made rose
Added a jute twine ,handmade rose and a label .I used water colors and a discarded plastic mat for stamping the flower pattern.

Cased + B'day Card

Card Front
Most of  you must be aware of celebration contest by our dear Deepti from Catchy crafts .We have to case one of her cards for the contest. She has so many wonderful cards with more than 300 posts to look for inspirations. It is difficult to choose one.To narrow down the choices I opted for pop-up cards and found this lovely card.
Deepti's card
Which has a wonderful surprise inside

Pop-up flowers
Deepti's card is very bright and cheerful . I made a light n pastel version of it and as the contest ends on her B'day I thought it appropriate to make a pop-up B'day cake .Took some more liberty in decorating the inside.

From Packaging to Packaging !

Box front view

You must have guessed from the title that its for Lessology's current challenge Packaging Central .I made a box. Have some more looks before I tell you how I made it..

side view
Other side view
For this box I started with the plastic tray ,that comes with sweets ..

plastic tray
I have hoarded lots of them and while storing them in a big carton box I realized that a box can be made by arranging two trays one above the other. So I took two trays covered them with tissue, they looked pathetic , came in even more tissue still no improvement ,then came in colors..pink..some .. blue it turned out mix of blue n violet..looking even more bad.May be..I should have colored it with white acrylic color before starting with tissue ...What have I done...??
Another packaging came to my rescue ...

pattern made with bubble wrap

Yes bubble wrap..made some patterns using bubble wrap with acrylic color..hmm..slight ok..now..
placed them one above other ,pierced holes and attached them with metal rings .I thought of decorating the top with lots of flowers..it didn't look good ...now ??
Another packaging...soap cover...

soap cover
It already had punched holes in it..so I made a big rosette and a small rosette with remaining strips. To add some more texture I used another packaging..(hey..don't get pissed ..its  last one..) the net which comes with fruits and finally added a fringed flower at the center.I have used a dark blue paper for base of this arrangement.

box top

This is how the box opens...

open box
I have used jute twine with beads to hold it together . Thanks a lot for staying with me n reading such a long post with packaging overload :D !!...One more favor..ya comments !!

Shabby Chic card

My first Shabby chic card .I have made it specially for my best friend since childhood ,will gift her on friendship day.She loves all girly things, laces, ruffles ,soft colors..so I hope she is going to like this card too !

It has lots of layers ,textures and stitching .The rectangular panel on left side has light texture made with comb n gesso (could not capture it in photo :( !!). For the banner like panel I have made ruffles with butter paper. For it I cut two strips of butter paper stitched them loosely and pulled the thread gentle pushing the strips in one direction .Then colored it randomly with light pink n white color .It curled and didn't stay flat so I glued it to a pattern paper strip.

Made  rosette with pink pattern paper distressed it lightly with pink color and the  rectangle over it has gauze as base .I made a diamond pattern on it with gesso (not visible again :( ! ).

Almost everything on this card has a coat of home-made gesso. Finished  it off with small handmade roses and plastic beads swirl .These are the papers used for the card.

Do Tell me if the card is shabby enough to be called shabby chic  !!

It is based on this inspirational photo ...

and this sketch

Whats reused here ?
All the panels are made from old invite, packaging tissue/butter paper, flowers are made of paper from old envelope.
