Home Sweet Home

kirigami pop-up

Hello friends !!  It has been long seen I created a pop-up card , current challenges made me try some new to me pop-up technique - KIRIGAMI ! I was amazed when I saw Dr.Sonia's taj mahal card and I wanted to know more about it ,that lead me to Google then to Robert Sabuda's site and then to popupology .I came across a house with slanting roof on this site.Something interesting n looked difficult I want to try this..

I did some thinking and  started cutting ,the roof was pretty slant but didn't fold properly..next try card folded proper but roof not slanting ..then again googling..I didn't wanted a ready made template just the technique for roof and finally found this video.I was soo  excited n started my third attempt straight away ..Oops I had cut  a part instead of scoring..Final n fourth attempt ! Very cautious this time as I had already wasted  3 cards .

House turned ok but it needed some color. So water-colored n fussy cut some plants ,flowers n fence and two tiny birds to bring in some life .Sponged memento inks for sky n grass.

Done with inside now the front..Kept it pretty simple (truth I was too satisfied with pop-up that didn't think much about front !),cut out the words n used small bead to create shaker ! how is it ?

  3. That is brilliant and good on you for having so many attempts. I spent yesterday making up a template Kirigami I have had for years of a Koala and baby. So much fun then did a pile of presents. Now I might have to try this as it would be perfect for my son who has just moved into his first rental.

  12. Pooja ...I missed seeing your pop up cards and origamic architecture is the most challenging yet at the same time simplest of pop up cards-- there is sheer elegance in the pop up and a millimetre misplaced cut or fold and the pop up fails!! Love your sweet house!! And Thank you so much for linking to me.
